Because of the differences in national ecological, physical environment and life experiences, philosophical source of social and religious culture, many cultural differences inevitably occur due to their differences on many cultural language environment, such as language habits, national character, social culture, local customs and practices. Not understanding these cultural differences, the cross-cultural communication obstacles and even misunderstanding and estrangement will occur. Learning a language, we must understand the inherent culture in the language. Cultural differences influence the second language acquisition. Their native culture has certain interference effect on understanding and using the target language. Foreign learners with Chinese as a second language, if not understand Chinese culture, do not understand the Chinese way of thinking and fully grasp Chinese. Therefore, understanding the differences between different cultures has very important practical significance for smoothly cross-cultural communication, or for teaching Chinese as a foreign language and promoting Chinese culture to spread outward.This paper, by using the theory of contrastive analysis, comparatively analyzes the differences between Chinese culture and English culture. Chinese-English cultural differences are mainly summarized, analyzed and compared from five aspects of historical, geographical environment, customs, ways of thinking, values, religious belief.In teaching Chinese as a foreign language, cultural differences between Chinese and English have caused a great disturbance to overseas students coming from English-speaking countries. Aiming at this problem, some teaching strategies can be adopted in actual teaching to promote Chinese culture to the students to understand, to reduce their psychological obstacles in learning Chinese, to stimulate their interests and enthusiasm in learning Chinese. The purpose of this study is to optimize the teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The thesis consists of four chapters:The first chapter mainly introduces the background, significance and theoretical basis and method of this thesis to enable us to understand the value of it.The second chapter concerns some studies of other scholars.The third chapter analyzes and compares the cultural differences existing between Chinese and English cultures, from five aspects of historical, geographical environment, customs, ways of thinking, values, religious belief.The fourth chapter illustrates the problems which may occur in Chinese teaching due to cultural differences between English and Chinese, discusses some teaching strategies which can be adopted in practical teaching, and proposes the ideas and suggestions for future teaching Chinese as a foreign language.The conclusion part summarizes the full text, including the necessity of cultural differences between Chinese and English, the main contents of this paper, the innovative points and the deficiencies.
