May12th2008,8-grade earthquake hit Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, causing a great loss. The present study aims to investigate the resilience of the middle school students in Stricken Areas3years after the earthquake and to improve their resistance to adversity, fulfill their potentials and help them achieve post-trauma growth by developing a Group Music Counseling.The present study can be divided into two parts. The first part used Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) to investigate683students (466from the stricken area, and217from the non-stricken area). And SAS, SDS, Scale of Social Support for Teens, Scale of Coping Style Scale for Middle School Students and Self-esteem Scale (SES) were applied so as to look further into the factors influencing students’resilience.The second part chose227th grade students with low resilience according to the result of the first part, divided them into control group and intervention group, both of which contains11students (5males and6females). Group music counseling was used to improve the resilience of the junior students in the stricken area. Social Support, Emotional Management, Coping Style and Goal Orientation are the four topic of the counseling program. In order to test the effect of Group Music Counseling, CD-RISC, SAS, SDS, Social Support For Teens, Coping Style Scale for Teens, SES and self-designed interview outline were used in pre-, post-test and follow-up survey.The results shows that:1Exploratory Factor Analysis shows that the resilience of junior middle school students sample yields "Coping","Goal","Emotion","Support" and "Conviction" five factors;2Students in stricken areas have significant lower score than the others in sum score of resilience and "Goal","Emotion","Support" and "Conviction" factors;3The degree of music fondness, social support, positive coping styles (problem-solving, looking for social support and trying to explain reasonably) and self-esteem are protective factors of the resilience of junior middle school students in earthquake stricken area. Besides, anxiety, depression and escape coping styles are the risk factors of their resilience.4Group Music Counseling can effectively improve various aspects of middle school students in stricken area, including resilience, Social Support, positive coping styles (Problem-solving, Looking for social support and rationalization) and Self-esteem. By contrast, they express lower anxiety and depression mood and less negative coping styles (Escape).5The follow up survey reveals that Group Music Counseling has sustained influence on resilience.
