The Method Of Division In The Translation Of Long English Sentences

One of the difficulties things in E-C translation is the translation of the long English sentence. The structure and logical relations of the long English sentence are usually complicated, involving many coordinate components, modifiers, conjunctions as well as long postposition attributives. What’s more, there are many pronouns in long English sentences whose referents need to be decided according to the context. Therefore, translators should carefully analyze and choose the correct and effective method when dealing with long English sentences. Division is just such a method. First, translators should analyze the long English sentences and divide them into different syntactic units. Then the divided syntactic units should be reorganized, and translators should omit those unnecessary conjunctions and subjects according to the Chinese usage. This thesis will analyze the method and procedures of the division in the translation of long English sentences focusing on three types of long English sentences.
