This thesis aims at, through case study, exploring practical coping strategies by analyzing the errors made by the author during the simulated simultaneous interpreting of Barack Obama's 2016 State of the Union Address from the perspective of Gile's Effort Model. The errors are associated with the listening and analysis effort, the memory effort and production effort respectively. Major strategies include anticipation, changing Ear-Voice Span and Syntactic Linearity. By conducting this study, the author hopes that the techniques and strategies in the thesis could prove useful in improving other interpreters' professional skills. |
