Practice Report On Simultaneous Interpreting Of Trump's 2019 State Of The Union Address From The Perspective Of The Interpreting Dynamic RDA Model

Against the backdrop of the United States' shift to renewed great power competition,China-US relations have already entered a state of comprehensive competition and rivalry.Whether the interpreting practice can play an increasing role in enhancing mutual exchanges and reducing miscalculation between China and the United States has attracted more and more attention from the public.This practice report focuses on the simultaneous interpreting of a political speech.The present reporter returned to his work after completing a full year of campus learning of his MTI program and was assigned the task simultaneously interpreting Trump's 2019 State of the Union Address into Chinese.As important as our annual “Report on the Work of the Government”,the State of the Union Address can be conducive to deepen our understanding of American's domestic and foreign policy,adjust our policy toward the US accordingly,and gain the upper hand in reshaping the Sino-US relations.The present reporter gets to know the Interpreting Dynamic RDA Model proposed by Professor Lai Yihua(2012)during his study on campus.After practicing consecutive and simultaneous interpreting under the guidance of the RDA Model,the present reporter finds that the RDA Model can exert positive effects on interpreting practice,so he chooses to use the RDA Model as the theoretical guidance in this simultaneous interpreting task,and tries to explore its influence on interpreting practice.After practice,the present reporter discovers that it can improve the quality of interpreting to a certain extent,and it is especially helpful in solving such problems as misinterpretation and omission in interpreting.Meanwhile,this report offers empirical cases for studies on the RDA Model,as well as expands its scope of application.Besides,the practice being reported here is simultaneous interpreting of televised political speech.It is hoped that this report can be of some significance by providing some references for the interpreting practice of similar types and enhancing the effect of classroom interpreting practices.
