A Contrastive Study Of Idioms About ’hand’ And’foot’ In Korean And Chinese

There are idioms in both Korean and Chinese. Idioms are conventio nally fixed phrases. It gain rhetorical significance through metaphor. Therefore, we can not simply understand idioms from its literal mean ing. In our daily life, people use thousands of idioms and idioms abo ut body are very popular.This paper compares idioms which related with hands and feet in K orean and Chinese, on the purpose of reveal similarities and differen ces of two languages when using idioms. This paper can be divided int o four parts.The first part is introduction. It explained purpose、research cont ent and methods of this paper, and brought out Korean-Chinese literat ure review on hand and foot’s idioms. As well as, it also determined the scope of the study of Korean and Chinese body idioms.The second part is about Korean-Chinese idioms, especially about its concept, origin and characteristics.The third part is the most essential part of this paper. It analy sed similarities and differences on structure and meaning of Korean-C hinese body idioms. Firstly, this section determined the scope of Kor ean-Chinese body idioms. Secondly, from the perspective of structure of hand and foot idioms, this paper brought out five types, that is, coincidence of form and meanging, same form with different meaning, d ifferent form with same meaning, different form with different meanin g. And then found there are unique idioms in both Korean and Chinese. Finally, from the contrastive study of hand and foot idioms, this pa per analysed similarities and differences of meaning when using idiom s.The fourth part is the conclusion.
