The Mechanism Of The Scanning Process And The Visual Representation Of The Chinese Characters:from The Perspective Of Southeast Asian Students

The presentational progressing for Chinese characters refers to the series of the processes of revolving and scanning the visual representation of Chinese characters. With the reaction time and the accurate rate as criteria, this paper studies the revolving and scanning progress of the visual representation of Chinese characters. And the Southeast Asian Students are the subject of an experiment.The experiment one was designed to use2(the test gender:man and female)×2(the image:the positive image, the mirror image)×3(the structures of Chinese characters:the upper and lower structure, the right and left structure, and independent structure)×6(the angle of rotation::0°、60°、120°、180°、240°、300°). The experiment two was designed to use2(the test gender:man and female)×2(the horizon)×2(the distance:the short distance and the long distance)×3(the structures of Chinese characters:the upper and lower structure, the right and left structure, and independent structure).The conclusions are as following:(1) In the task of the visual representation of Chinese characters, the angles are the major effect for Southeast Asian students.. A distribution curve is like an inverted V with180-degree.(2) the influences of different structures of Chinese characters caused by Southeast Asian students are different. The correct rate for the right and left structure is higher than others. The up and down structure is harder than others.(3) The reaction time of Southeast Asian students is shorter than the mirror image. The positive image of the independent structure is easier than the mirror image. However, there is no difference between the right/left and up/down structure. In the position of the level of cross, there is no difference between the up/down structure and the mirror image.(4) There are the gender differences for Southeast Asian students in the aspects of the visual representation of Chinese characters.(5) In the aspect of the reaction time, there is also the gender difference. The time for female is shorter than male. Women are better in the scanning the visual representation. Chinese characters feature in the image and language but the language is easier than the other. (6) The best position for the visual representation is close to the point, or left to the point and the upper characters.(7) The time for female Southeast Asian students to scan the up and down structure is shorter than male. The reaction time or the correct rate is influenced by the structure of the Chinese characters. The correct rate of the up/down structure is higher than others. The time for right/left structure is shorter than others.
