China is one of only a few countries that has a long past and a splendid civilization. Many countries borrowed Chinese language characters from the past as a result. Vietnam was one of those countries. China and Vietnam have had a long history together. After the millennia of contacts and exchanges, today, many aspects of their culture and language are largely identical with only minor differences. Therefore, idioms are extremely obvious between the two countries. An idiom is a special use of the language and in its most simplified form, it expresses profound knowledge. Throughout history, people at all times have been using different forms of communication by creating all kinds of literary and verbal works. The meaning of them in the leading role, with the words of inspiration in the process as idioms are created. An idiom is the quintessential total sum of people’s cognition; it is a product of history. There is a phrase:" Wonderful literary grace, spiritual meaning in the idiom."Consequently, in order for learners of idioms to know more about them, in the hope of avoiding making mistakes, is the contents of this thesis. Explaining the origin of the selected topic is essential because past attempts have failed to attach the appropriate importance for a Chinese idiom’s teaching. The error analysis research is very weak and it needs to be deepened and strengthened.Chapter2:Chinese Idiom Error Investigation and PerformanceThe results from the questionnaire I found that almost all Vietnamese students are interested in learning Chinese idioms, wishing to adopt the idiom to modern oral expressions and writings, but in current practice, there are still varying degrees of errors. This section will include the main forms of writing, semantic understanding, usage and pragmatic handling of syntax errors.Chapter3:Idiom Error Analysis for Vietnamese StudentsThis chapter will analyze the causes of errors in acquisition of Chinese idioms by Vietnamese students. It will focus on errors of subjective reasons for the formation of students’learning strategies and lack of teachers’ teaching methods. Objective reasons are the negative transfer of native language, target language interference and cultural barriers.Chapter4:Chinese Teaching TechniquesThe status of Chinese teaching of idioms has not been fully understood. The subject of idioms in Chinese schools aren’t enriched enough; some teachers deliberately avoid the accepted method or they use a diluted approach to teaching idioms. To solve these problems, this section explores teaching methods and context of idioms, and attempts to make related recommendations on improving teaching techniques.
