The idiom is one of the special members in the vocabulary section of every language. The idiomsare not only huge in number, qualitative in structure, concise and comprehensive in meaning, but also they contain rich cultural connotations and have a deep historical and cultural value. Every language that has along history contains a great number of idioms, and it is the same case for the language of Chinese and Kazakh language. Rich and colorful idioms have a long history and full of boundless vitality, meanwhile they are very active in the oral and written language. We see idioms almost everywhere, in everyday life and in the books as well as in the dictionaries. With the improvement of the Chinese language level, we Chinese learners and translators gradually and consciously use more idioms in the language expressions. It is the subjective requirement for our consciously pursuit to improve the ability of language expression, at the same time it is the objective requirement for improving our comprehension and expression abilities in Chinese. Nevertheless, it is very hard to accurately use the idioms both in communication and in writings, and furthermore translation of idioms is also one of the difficult works.The major research methods of this thesis are:based on theoretical books and collected language data, I deeply analyze, contrast and compare the idioms in Chinese and Kazakh language. First of all, I summarize the characters of idioms in Kazakh and Chinese, and then from the aspect of origin, forms, and rhetoric features contrast national color of idioms in two languages, finally the paper analyzes some problems in the translation of idioms.This thesis consists of three parts. The first part is an introduction. Here the paper elaborates purpose and significance of the research work, introduces the previous studies, scholars work on idioms, reviews and evaluates current research situations, and presents the research method of the paper. The second part is the main body of the paper, which is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, Chinese and Kazak idioms are summarized from the aspects of definition, characteristics and origin; in the second chapter, Chinese and Kazak idiom are respectively compared and contrasted from several aspects such as the form, content, values, mode of thinking, cultural connotation, mainly discusses some problems in translation of Chinese idioms and its characteristics, and the role of teaching Chinese idioms; in the third chapter,Chinese idioms teaching methods for the native Kazakh students are discussed, and topics include characteristics of the methods, existing problems and present situations.
