For those interpreters who have Chinese as A language and English as B language, itis less likely that they will encounter problems in listening to Chinese speeches in theconsecutive interpreting. However, when they interpret, interpreters are easily to beeffected by the original sentence structure of Chinese or interpreters cannot speak someEnglish expressions fluently, which will make interpretation time much longer than that ofthe Chinese speech. The author, as a student learning interpretation, has realized that herinterpretation time is too long in C to E interpretation practices. Thus, based on the casestudy of the speech, The New Prescription to China’s Economic Development in a mockconference, this thesis will analyze the reasons that lead to the problem of longinterpretation time. After the analysis, the author finds out that the main reasons includeback-track, pause, language expression and the nervousness of the interpreter. At the end ofthis thesis, several solutions are proposed to control the interpretation time, including goodpreparation before interpreting, ability of deverbalization, accumulation of usefulexpressions and the formation of a strong mindset.
