A Study On English To Chinese Translation Methods Of Product Introduction Texts

Product introduction texts are one of the general business texts and the most common textsin translation work. The basic function of product introduction texts is specifying thecharacteristics of products, but as more and more products come into the markets and thencustomers have more choices, the product introduction texts are no longer used only asproduct specification, but more as advertisements, in order to attract customers andstimulate purchase. Since the function has changed, the language style of productintroduction texts has also changed. Product introduction texts were clear and simple,while now they use various forms and beautiful language. As a result, the translationpurposes of different types of product introduction texts are different, which also lead todifferent translation methods. On the basis of the cases of translation from a part ofinternship in Linguitronics Co., Ltd., this paper analyzes the functions, forms, languagefeatures of different product introduction texts, in order to discuss the purposes and Englishto Chinese translation methods of product introduction texts. Product introduction texts canbe classified into product introduction texts of which the main function is specifyingproducts’ characteristics and product introduction texts of which the text function is notjust specifying products’ characteristics, but also advertising. The understanding andtranslation of the former are relatively simple, while the understanding and translation ofthe latter are beyond those of practical texts, which need translators have more backgroundknowledge, restructure sentences and use a lot of translation skills, and even do somecreations.
