Explicitation In Consecutive Interpretation

The subject matter of the thesis is explicitation in C-E consecutive interpretation. Itanalyses the explicitation of conceptual meaning and textual meaning in consecutiveinterpretation. Based on the case study of "Green Energy" speech on Shanghai ForumMock Conference, the thesis probes into the effect and the tactics of explicitation in C-Econsecutive interpretation.First, the thesis defines explication and discusses its necessity. It further explains thedefinition of the explicitation of conceptual meaning and textual meaning. Then, the thesiscompares the original speech with the interpretation and then lists examples to show goodversions of explcitation and unsatisfactory ones. Based on case study, the thesis probes intothe tactics of explicitation in the precess of note taking as well as delivering.In C-E consecutive interpretation, explicitation is of great significance in promotingthe effect of both interpretation and speech. It is also closely related to the comfort foraudience to listen. When interpreting, interpreters should keep in mind that they shouldinterpret the speech explicitly and that their major task is to promote communication.Therefore, to help audience better understand the speech, interpreters should use decentEnglish, straighten out the logic and clarify the coherence of the speech. The aim of thethesis is to help interpreters and interpretation majors better understand explicitation andmake good advantage of the tactics to promote the quality of interpretation.
