Films and television programs have become a necessity in people’s daily life and animportant way to keep in touch with society. As international economic and culturalexchange increases, communication through films and television works is flourishing indifferent countries, especially via internet. Therefore, subtitle translation has become animportant task. Rather than a focus on the faithfulness as widely advocated in China byliterary translators, subtitle translation focuses more on a concise and effective transfer ofthe essential message in the original works.This thesis discusses the features of subtitle translation from three aspects: Time,Space and Cross-cultural elements. Following a case analysis of the translation of a TVseries entitled Songs from Heaven, the author tries to propose a deduction strategy as afeasible way of subtitle translation. |
