On The Translation Of Culture-loaded Terms In Wuxia Fiction

Along with the more and more frequent economic exchange between China and theWest，the cultural exchange also increases rapidly. More and more western readers longfor the understanding of the Chinese culture. Chinese culture is loaded with the deepcultural connotation of Chinese people and reflects their traditional culture valueorientation directly. It is believed that translation is a cultural communication.It is intended to make an exploration on culture-loaded terms translation in Xue ShanFei Hu (雪山飞狐)from a cultural perspective. Its first translation Flying Fox of SnowMountain is in1972by Robin Wu. Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountain is a translation in1996by Olivia Mok who teaches translation at the City University of Hong Kong. Startingoff from the perspective of culture-loaded terms, the thesis has a preliminary discussionabout the cultural translation strategy on different versions of Xue Shan Fei Hu. Variousapproaches are classified in this thesis. This paper discusses, with examples, the necessityand feasibility of domestication and foreignization strategies in the translation ofculture-loaded terms. The author wants to find out the secret of the successfulculture-loaded terms translation and hopes to give some suggestions to help the otherlearners to do better in their practice. The author looks forward to promoting interculturalunderstanding and external dissemination of Chinese traditional culture, so that Chineseculture can retain its due power in cultural exchange in the context of globalization.
