As an important English style, English for Science and Technology (EST) is widely used by people who engage in the activities of science and technology. It is different from the general Non-tech English style. The use of long sentences is a typical characteristic in EST, which has undoubtedly caused difficulty in understanding and translating EST texts because of the complicated structures and modifiers in the long sentences. In order to overcome these difficulties, the author of this thesis first analyzes the syntactic features of long sentences in EST, and then dwells on the translation principles and translation methods. The author thinks that translators are able to effectively and accurately reproduce the meanings of the original text and make the translated text clear, coherent and logical by observing proper translation principles and using proper translation methods. |
