In his chamber music "Fan I--for Voice and nine Musical Instruments"(1991), Mo Wuping used modern music composing techniques to cite, change and innovate traditional and folk music material. He explored the potential energy in Chinese traditional music and absorbed from the folk music material the elements that exactly fit his own creative ideas. The key characteristics of the composition are the use of micro-polyphonic and rhythm imitation techniques and the imitation of folk instrument timbre.Technically, the music composition is comprehensively analyzed from the perspectives of structure, pitch organization, polyphonic technique analysis, texture, subject material application and timbre combination. As for pitch, the Pitch-class Set Theory by Allen Forte is applied as the main analysis method.
