"Misinterpretation" is involuntary departure from the speaker’s intended production oflanguage units. In practice, often, the deviant performance is immediately detected andcorrected by the speaker or filtered by the judgment of the listeners. However, the highfrequency of misinterpretation will certainly affect the quality of interpreting output.This thesis examines "misinterpretation" in consecutive interpreting through theanalysis of one of the author’s actual case of the negotiation conference on the renovationproject of Laszlo Hudec’s former residence. Also this thesis aims at finding the causes ofmisinterpretation so as to put forward some possible solutions to solve the problem. Insummary, the thesis is to minimize the occurrence of misinterpretation and improve thequality of interpreting output. |
