Hegel once said:"art is the teacher of all nations in the world". In the new age of quality-oriented education, people begin to pay more and more attention to art education. Art education plays an important role in enhancing students’quality, remodeling students’ values, optimizing the students’ knowledge structure, developing students’innovative thinking and improving the students’ comprehensive quality. From the view of art education in rural areas, the author regards the development of rural art education as a precondition of promoting the full implementation of the quality-oriented education and consider it as an important measure to narrowing the gap between urban and rural areas, promoting the development of new countries.Since the rural art education starts late in our country, there are still many problems at present. For example, due to the influence of exam-oriented education, we have some misunderstanding of art and we don’t take much count of the development of rural art education; the hardware equipment of art teaching in rural schools is below standard; rural schools lack professional teachers; the quality of teachers is not high; the teaching method is unenlightened and so on. In order to promote the development of rural art education, the author thinks that should take measures from four aspects:First, changing the teaching evaluation system and supervising the education scientifically; Second, transforming the values and correcting our art education ideas; Third, increasing the rural art education funding and upgrading the hardware facilities in rural schools; Fourth, strengthening the cultivation of rural art teachers’ professional team, reforming the teaching ideas in art education, ensuring the teaching software quality in rural area and improving the art education level. The author thinks that the third and fourth points are the most important and they are the catalyst to promote the development of rural art education. In a word, no matter what kind of measures we take, we should take the actual situation of rural areas as the central theme. Only based on the actual situation can we find a suitable way to develop rural art education.
