Resembling Leo Tolstoy as a notable writer in Russian history, FyodorMikhailovich Dostoevsky(1821—1881) also scale huge heights in hisachievement. Someone has said that Leo Tolstoy is endowed with a fair span,while Dostoevsky is possessed of certain depth. The course of Dostoevsky’slife and literary creation advanced under extremely difficult and thornycircumstances. Complex and contradictions overflowed in his mind, whichtrapped him for the whole life in tortures of pursuing religious belief andcontradictions.Christianity consciousness was embedded in the thoughts of thistalented writer, further more, in all Russians. Religious devotion featuresRussian national spirit, infiltrating spiritual context of context of Russiannation.Profound religious consciousness is implanted in works of Dostoevsky.Characters he describes are veiled with a profound religious color, fromwhich "Crime and Punishment" outstands. The hero binds with integratedsurrounding environment and religion."Crime and Punishment" describes hismental experience of impoverished college student Raskolnikov after hiscommitting a murder. He is punished legally, morally and consciously. Guided by Sonia, a devout Christian, he converts to Christian, embarking onthe road of redeeming. To analyze the profound religious belief in "Crime andPunishment", this thesis paper illustrates the standpoint to the religiouscomplex of the whole Russian nation.This paper offers a great insight into the forming, development andembodiment of Russian national religious belief, further displays the featuresof Russian nation. The study of national features are emphasized in traditionalresearches, nevertheless, with the study of Dostoevsky’s "Crime andPunishment", the author exclusively researches for the “religiousness” whichclosely connects with Russian national spirit.This paper realistically supplements and refines the study of Russianreligious belief in China, introduces Russian national culture, promotes themutual understanding between China and Russia and advances academicexchange, which renders deeper study to national spirit and psychologicalstatus of its counterpart country.It is creatively shown in this paper that “religiousness” stands out asessential, distinctive and indelible features of Russian nation by connecting tothe typical and concrete characters in Dostoevsky’s "Crime andPunishment".
