With the rapid development of China’s economy, Chinese engineering companies have more opportunities to join in foreign organizations and cooperate with the companies in this field to accomplish the projects. Therefore, proper Chinese translation of civil engineering English plays an important role in the communication. Being a translator in this field, the author has come to realize it is necessary to study the translation of civil engineering English systematically. Hence, it is necessary that the translation of civil engineering English into Chinese be analyzed from the perspective of Skopostheory.Based on the skopostheory, this paper, is aimed at conducting a deep and objective analysis of the translation EST and civil engineering English, this paper first gives a relatively comprehensive elucidation about skopostheory and then makes a descriptive analysis on the characteristics of EST. As well as the translation strategies and methods of the EST translation then it analysis the translation of practice and makes the case study. Finally, it comes to a conclusion that translation purpose has decided his choice and application of translation strategies and methods, which has, in return, accomplished the task of transferring the EST knowledge of foreign countries and adequately fulfilled the translation purpose. This research has also provided the evidence that skopostheory can be applied as a means to deal with the phenomena and issues in EST translation practice. This paper is of a referential value for translation study of EST and of a guiding significance for the translation study and practice.Based on the above discussion and analyses, the author comes to the conclusion that in order to translate EST better, a translator must be good at both English and Chinese, grasp the knowledge on civil engineering, learn something about basic translation theories, and make good use of translation skills based on the characteristics of civil engineering English. Last but not the least, a translator must have a strong sense of responsibility and obligation.
