With the accelerated development of China’s economy and China’s risingposition in the world, there are more and more communications between China andthe world. People concern more and more translation research on Chinesecharacteristic sentences. The translation quality on Chinese characteristic sentencesdecides the comprehension for China. For interpreters, because of a wide variety ofthese sentences, the task for better interpretation Chinese characteristic sentences isstill a great challenge.This thesis includes the following five parts. The first part gives a briefintroduction to the present research situation about Chinese characteristic sentences.There are many consecutive conferences at home and abroad, so this thesissummarizes some strategies for Chinese characteristic sentences interpretation.Finally the thesis introduces the significance of research and its structure.Chapter one overviews the general conditions of Chinese characteristic sentences.It concludes that the main reason for these Chinese characteristic sentences is theunique Chinese culture and divides these sentences into three parts, includingaesthetic interference, political interference and ethical intervention.Chapter two describes the theoretical framework—Interpretive Theory. This chapter puts forward the development of this theory and its purpose as well as thecontent of this theory. There are three parts of this theory, including comprehension,deverbalization and expression. This part combines this theory with the researchtopic—Chinese characteristic sentences, and analyses the pertinency of InterpretiveTheory and Chinese characteristic sentences, including seizing the core meaning,attaching importance to comprehension and learning to select the informationeffectively.Chapter three puts forward a series of influencing factors, including semanticdifferences, the differences of modes of thinking, different social customs. Then itintroduces a series of principles for interpreting Chinese Characteristic Sentences,including seizing the key words and sense groups, understanding the logicalrelationship between sentences, learning the meaning of four-character idioms andsome sentences setting a heavy cultural foundation, learning the overtone of thespeaker, paying attention to the context. There are some strategies for interpretingChinese characteristic sentences. In this chapter, these strategies are categorized intodifferent parts and they contains literal, amplification and omission, reorganization,simplification, conversion, segmentation and combination. At last, we draw aconclusion that we should adopt different strategies under different conditions.The conclusion part points out major findings and limitations of this thesis aswell as some suggestion for further study.
