With the development of "Mandarin Fever", more and more foreigners are enthusiastic about learning Chinese, so at present, the teaching of Chinese for foreigners is thriving globally. However, there still exist some problems and weakness in mandarin teaching for foreigners, especially in oral Chinese teaching. The most important one to be solved is how to use the effective methods to arouse students’ enthusiasm and improve their communicative abilities. In order to change the present situation, this paper chooses the theory of Cooperative Learning from various teaching theories to study and does some research on it.The theory of Cooperative Learning began to develop in the USA in the early1970’s and now is widely used all over the world. According to the theory of Cooperative Learning, it is thought that cooperating with others can promote each other and improve the learning efficiency. Learners can acquire knowledge not only from the teachers but also from the other students through cooperation. In Cooperative Learning classrooms, learners get more chances to practice using the language and to communicate with others by cooperating with partners to complete cooperating tasks. Learners can better communicate with others and improve their expression ability quickly. Thus it can be seen that Cooperative Learning is the most suitable for oral language teaching.The teaching of oral Chinese for foreigners is divided into three levels, primary, intermediate and advanced. The paper mainly focuses on the practice and research of Cooperative Learning in the primary oral Chinese teaching for foreign students on the basis of the study of its theory, aiming to discuss the significance of Cooperative Learning. The objective of primary oral Chinese teaching for foreign students is to enable overseas students to master the most basic words and sentence patterns in order to take part in simple daily communicative activities. To practice Cooperative Learning in the primary oral Chinese teaching for foreign students helps to create a relaxed atmosphere. Compared to other teaching methods, Cooperative Learning can better help beginners relieve their anxiety. Cooperative Learning also helps to change learners’attitudes, arouse their enthusiasm, boost their self-confidence, strengthen their motives and improve their oral language and the ability of communication. Teaching practice shows that various forms of communicating and meaningful cooperating activities play a very important role in cultivating learners’ability of using the language.Besides, the paper also discovers some existing problems in the practice of Cooperative Learning and suggests improvements accordingly.The paper mainly consists of four chapters. Chapter1is about the research literature. The present research situation of Cooperative Learning in the area of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages is introduced on the basis of the study of the document literature in China and abroad.Chapter2is the overview of the theories, patterns and methods of Cooperative Learning. The implication, connotation, basic elements, rationale as well as patterns and methods of Cooperative Learning are introduced in this chapter.Chapter3is the practice of Cooperative Learning in primary oral Chinese teaching for foreign students. How to use Cooperative Learning in primary oral Chinese course is illustrated by analyzing three typical cases.Chapter4is the analysis of the effect of Cooperative Learning in primary oral Chinese teaching for foreign students. In this chapter, classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews and means of before-and-after contrast are employed to probe into the significance of Cooperative Learning in primary oral Chinese classes and the existing problems. Besides, this chapter puts forward the countermeasures of strengthening the effectiveness of Cooperative Learning in primary oral Chinese teaching.The present study tries to introduce Cooperative Learning into the primary oral Chinese teaching for foreigners, with the purpose of improving learners’ spoken Chinese and the effectiveness of teaching.
