Enshou Yang is a famous opera writer in the late of Qing Dynasty and wrotelots of well known works such as Tanyuan Six Melodies, Tanyuan Diary,Tanyuan’s Complete Works, Story of opera, and Supplement Story of Opera, andso on.With researching on the historical materials recorded in Tanyuan Dairy as thesame time taking the social background at that time into account, the paperanalyzes the prosperous development of Hunan opera in Tongguang Times. TheIntroduction part illustrates the current research status and arise the focus ofthe research. Chapter1introduces Yang’s life, writing and friends. In regardingto his life, the paper emphasizes his imperial examinations and travellingexperience; and then selects his three most famous friends to discuss Yang’ssocial relationship; at last the paper introduces the yang’s works and writingtheory. Chapter2researches on the opera historical data, which is discussed inthe following four aspects: temple theatre, assembly hall, officers’ residenceand other performance places. After calculating the places where people watchthe opera in the Diary, it comes to the conclusion that the temple theatre andassembly hall are the main performance places in Chang Sha in TongguangTimes. Chapter3makes research on the opera types, i.e, performances for God,officers, entertainment party and business. They are the main opera types in HuNan in Tongguang Times and it’s obvious that the opera is very colorful andprosperous at that time. Chapter4introduces the organizations and the operaoutline mentioned in Tanyuan Diary. From these data we can figure out that theopera recorded in the Diary is similar with what we called Changsha Opera,Hengyang Opera and Qi Opera nowadays.
