How to Think about Weird Things: Critical Thinking for a New Age, a masterpiece of two American philosophers, Theodore Schick and Lewis Vaughn, aims at developing people’s ability of critical thinking.The dissertation is based on the present author’s endeavor in the translating of Chapter6and Preface of the original English work, introducing the text type and linguistic features of the text and discussing the problems or difficulties encountered in the process of translating.Based on Eugene Nida’s functional equivalence, the present author exemplifies the strategies and skills applied in translating words and sentences, and summarizes the gains and deficiencies in the end.
