The Conference Interpretation Practice Report

This criterion is presented in the format of practice report which is based on the real interpretation experience of the author. This report bases on the author’s experience as the interpreter for Marxism study of Dalian university of technology and integrate it with interpreting theories. In the end of the criterion, the author analysis the conference interpretation problems and proposes some solutions.This criterion consists of four parts. Part I and II, the author has given full description of interpretation preparation and the process of the interpretation. Part III formulate two important interpretation theories:The Interpretive Theory and Daniel Gile’s Effort Model. The main idea of The Interpretive Theory is that it gets rid of the formal correspondence but at the same time put emphasis on the meaning correspondence. This theory is applied in most interpretation occasions. Daniel Gile"s Effort Mode is about the interpreter’s energy distribution. According to the Model, the author explains every part of the Model:hearing problems, memory problems, note-taking problems and expression problems. Those four problems are common problems for every conference interpreter. At the same time, the author give some solutions to those problems. In my opinion, hearing problems play the most important role in a successful conference interpretation.In part IV is a summary of this conference interpretation especially the mistake the author made. The interpretation mistakes include:broken long paragraph interpretation; Chinese culture-loaded words interpretation; cross-culture communication problems; hearing problems. In this part, I give a lot of examples which are from my own interpretation experience.At last, there is an overall summary of conference interpretation. In the real occasion, conference interpreters are also responsible for foreign exchange activities. So conference interpretation can improve foreign exchange activities skills.
