This is a translation report for the translated chapter8to9of How to Write aBusiness Plan (the10thedition).The report introduces the relevant backgroundinformation about the original text, makes an analysis of the text type and linguisticfeatures, points out the main points and difficulties in translation, and explains howthe author finished this translation project by applying the German functionaltranslation theories. The analysis shows that the original text belongs to “informativetext” or “practical text”. Practical text translation and literary translation are relativeterms. The former focuses more on the purpose of information transfer and the effect,while the latter emphasizes more on transferring the aesthetic meaning of the originaltext. Different translation strategies are utilized regarding to different text types.Therefore, the author, under the guidance of German functional translation theory andaccording to the features of Chinese texts of same text category, has adopted flexiblydifferent translation strategies to realize the ultimate purpose of translating this kindof text, which is to transfer the original information accurately and faithfully, produceon the readers an effect as close as possible to that on the readers of the original text,and realize the value of information transfer.This report consists of four chapters: chapter one introduces the backgroundinformation and the significance of this translation project; chapter two gives a briefintroduction to the original text content and an analysis of translating difficulties andmain points, and puts forward correspondent translation strategies; chapter threeillustrates major translation methods applied in this project with examples; chapterfour draws a conclusion about the experiences and lessons on the author’s part fromthe translation practice.
