Learning Chinese language is not an easy job for Indian students although they have amultilingual background specially Sounds and tones in Chinese.At present, the number ofresearch work done to teach and improvise sounds and tones of the Indian stuentslearning Chinese are few,teaching methods also needs to add lusture.Therefore,the soundsand tones error analysis of immediate and intermediate level Indian students andaccordingly devising teaching methods is an utterly relevant topic in Chinese teachingresearch.This research is highly pertinent to the development of teaching methods analyzing theerrors in sounds of immediate and intermediate Indian students learning Chinese.Thedata’s for the error analysis are mainly recorded from the students Delhi University,Jawaharlal Nehru University and Visva Bharati University. The research questionnairescontain monosyllabic and disyllabic sounds, short passages etc. to read aloud,andrepeatedly listening to the erroneous sounds made by the students for research analyzing.The analysis portion contain erroneous consonants analysis, erroneous simple vowelanalysis and compound vowel analysis, erroneous tones analysis.Through statisticalcalculations, understanding the present condition of Chinese language learning in Indiawith emphasis on sounds and tones. The data’s of teaching situation in India came fromthe survey questionnaires filled up by the students of the above mentioned universities,my own understanding of the process of teaching by an Indian teacher, teaching methodsfor Chinese language and students method of learning, influence of student’s mothertongue etc. which revealed that the some definite problems in sound are owing to theinfluence of student, teacher, institution and mother tongue.Chinese, which is a foreign language is mainly taught verbally in beginner’s level andowing to many reasons this may lead to a sea of problems in sound and tones. Whileteaching we may adhere to the special features of Verbal teaching, should have a holisticapproach towards the principles of Chinese teaching,and can use the right methods forteaching. For example, graphical representations, expressions through bodily movements,comparative methods, exercises, in practical, interesting and teaching methods bestapplied to Indian students.
