The history and current situation of teaching Chinese as the second language inColleges and universities in Xinjiang are studied in this paper. The history isdescribed deeply which has three stages-early stage,practicing stage and deepeningdevelopment period.The division of the stage is on the basis of interviews andhistorical materials. Study the current situation through interviews, classroomobservation and questionnaires. The author interviewed6charge of the teaching infour universities of Xinjiang University, Xinjiang Normal University, XinjiangUniversity of Finance and Economics and Xinjiang Agricultural University with theself-made outline"About the history of teaching Chinese as the second language andthe method of TCSL" and collected a lot of valuable information about thehistory.Using the"Teaching method applied in teaching Chinese as the secondlanguage classroom observation table" which is for the intermediate stage of intensivereading and "Student feedback questionnaires", the author visited and observed theteachers and students of the5sample classes for2months.Through research and analysis, the author drew the following conclusions: themethods in teaching Chinese as the second language inXinjiang university have threeobvious insufficient, one is more tradition and less reform and innovation; second ismore closure,and less communication; the third is more experience and less designedarrangement.Based on this result, the author give some personal suggestions about teachingmethod from the actual characteristics of TCSL in Xinjiang colleges and universities.
