Research On The Plant Words Of The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary(the5th Edition)

The research on the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary of the5th edition or the plantwords is not very long. ZHENG Yan-ping and CAO Wei wrote a thesis which had the name ofA Quantitative Study of Plant Vocabulary in Modern Chinese:With Attention to ProblematicInterpretation of Plant Vocabulary as Manifest in the Fifth Edition of Modern ChineseDictionary(2008).But there were some wrong datas in the thesis.We must do some researchon the plant words of the Contemporary Chinese Dictionary and correct these mistakes assoon as possible.This study uses some methods,such as do quantitative study,draw image schema,analyzed and summarized and so on.There are1198plants words in our study. We will dosome research on their pronunciation, classify,the expands of word’s meaning and so on toobtain some pioneering achievements of the plant words.We can also do a little of forecast.The overall conclusion of this paper is as follows:1This study put the1198plant words into four classes according to plant nomenclaturefeatures and their names. The four classes of words have their own characteristics.2Modern Chinese plant vocabulary is tend to have dual tones. Genetic factors occupiesan important position in disyllabic words of plant, non-genetic factors plays more importantrole in polysyllabic words of plant.3Plant words are different from spoken words and written words of modern Chinese.They have special structures of morphemes.And they show many characteristics ofthemselves.All these are due to they are terms.4There are two ways for plant words have another new meaning: metonymy andmetaphor.Metonymy are used much more than metaphor. The extended meaning of plantwords can be summed up to The Part-Whole Schema and The link schema. The extendedmeaning of plant words reflects that more word senses more the cognitive of human.Cognitive of human has orders.5The plant words with high frequency will extend to a large number and then stopincrease. The plant words with low frequency will narrow to a small number and then stopdecrease.At the present, the plant words with high frequency are on the way of increase,andthe plant words with low frequency are on the way of decrease.
