Residence is the cell of urban living, which plays an important role inurban construction. Many factors contributed to the current high houseprices, and made many residents in the city have to buy a small house. theMOHURD also made the policy that among the new building house, thebuild-up area less than90㎡must take up more than70%. so it’s theinevitable trend to develop small and medium size house for urban housing.Currently, construction industry should pay more attention for belowquestion: How to meet all needs in a small house with long-term living,how to make the house more flexible, how to avoid the contradictionbetween unchanged structure&changeful requirement, so that to meet thetimely needs.In this text, we will start from the parts of house structure and space,to discuss the good way for how to high-efficiently use the limited area.Finally, with the analysis for the various basic needs, we will try to find theavailable mode to meet the different population needs for housing, therebyto make the economical house more applicable.The whole content is divided into five chapters, the first one is theintroduction, mainly for the background, significance, purpose and theresearch status inside&outside China, which briefly describes the mainresearch content and technical routes. Chapter two describes the evolution&development of residence, andthe caused problems, to cast back the nature of housing itself for discuccingthe basics housing problems. Combining with the historical development¤t research for residence, as well as review the long-standingproblems for design in our country, we will approve the necessity forhousing with a certain adaptability.Chapter three, from the angle of residential structure, to analyze thefeasibility of housing with adaptability. With analyzing the developmentprocess of domestic and international open building principles and practice,to compare, link, analysis and summary, therefore to know we can to makesome actions on house structure for the house flexibility.Chapter four,from the angle of house interior space to analyze theavailability of housing feasibility. With deeply discussing the basic needsfor functional space&its characteristics,&combining with the definitionof each functional plane, to probe into the feasibility of space flexibilityamong the different needs.Chapter five, with the previously-mentioned analysis of two maintheory for flexibility house, together with situation in China, to proceed thespecific construction of functional house, and reflected it on the housedesign, in order to meet different needs in the limited area. This researchincludes how to fix the suitable building area, the mode for buildingstructure, the continuously changed requirements when long-term living, and how to meet the various needs within the limited house area, and alsothe specific examples of "transition" mode.
