Diabetes combined with hyperlipemia was discussed based on phlegm turbid andblood stasis. It is believed that Gaozhi, an important component of the body, comes from the body fluid which is transformed from food. Thus the generation, circulation and excretion of Gaozhi are closely associated with liver, spleenand kidney. Gaozhi can enrich bone and marrow and transform into essence andblood by circulating with the body fluid so as to enhance the ability of antievils. It is said that too much intake of fat, congenital deficiencies, overstrain, over sexual activities or liver failing to sooth can lead to diabetes. These reasons are also the causes of diabetic hyperlipemia. Any dysfunction ofliver, spleen or kidney can cause abnormal transformation and circulation ofthe body fluid, resulting in excessive blood fat. Phlegm due to dampness canblock vessels and cause blood stasis; depression of Qi and blood and dysfunctionof Zang-fu organs can cause many symptoms, resulting in hyperlipemia. Therefore, the main pathological Zang-fu organs are liver, spleen and kidney and the keyto the pathogenesis is phlegm turbid and blood stasis. The method of resolvingphlegm and activating blood is the basic treatment for diabetic hyperlipemia, which can get double effect in clinic.
