Hyperlipidemia is a disorder of lipid metabolism, due to fat metabolism or abnormal function of the body causing the evelation of one kind or several kinds of plasma lipid. Plasma lipid includes cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipids and fatty acids. They are all involved in the body’s metabolism, also in the metabolic regulation of lipid metabolism. Therefore lipid abnormalities can cause a series of disease, like the acceleration of systemic atherosclerosis. The proper function of all vital organs relies on arteric oxygen and blood. Once a plaque clog an artery, will lead to serious consequences. A large number of studies show that, dyslipidemia is the major risk factor of stroke, coronary heart disease, myocardial infarction and sudden cardiac death. With the development of society, the incidence of hyperlipidemia is rising, people are paying more attention to its prevention and control. Even modern medicine has deep and precise knowledge about the disease, yet treatment using drugs orally have obvious side effects, such as liver and kidney damage or gastrointestinal reaction. Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in treating hyperlipidemia, showed its unique people-oriented characteristic, having various treating methods, with small toxic side effect,by using Chinese herbal medicine or other TCM patent drugs such as Xue Zhi Kang. But there still some patients intolerant of the bitter taste of decoction or gastrointestinal irritation due to long-term usage. Acupuncture has great curative effect in recovering the disorder of lipid metabolism. Comparing to the western medicine drugs, it has no toxic side effect, and comparing to Chinese herbal medicine or patent durgs, it won’t cause any gastrointestinal irritation and other adverse reactions. Also it shows remarkable advantages in comprehensive treatment and improving the physique.TCM believes that hyperlipidemia is caused by phlegm and blood stasis. Both are hyperlipidemia in pathogenesis of pathological product, and its pathogenic factor. Therefore dissipating phlegm and removing blood stasis is the way of improving the abnormal state of lipid metabolism. The subject of using pricking blood therapy in treating hyperlipidemia is based on my professor’s long-term commitment in pricking blood therapy clinical research, and induction of the previous experiences of acupuncture in the treating hyperlipidemia. Comparing to other traditional therapy, pricking blood therapy can improve blood rheology, reduce blood viscosity, improve microcirculation, and by stimulating the vascular endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells, causing the body to give out a variety of chemical signals, in order to secret a variety of vasoactive substances. This study was to observe the efficacy of pricking blood therapy in the treating hyperlipidemia and the serum cholesterol and triglycerides level changes. This paper has the literature review and clinical study. The literature review has two articles, firstly retrospected the modern medicine research of etiology and pathology of hyperlipidemia, summarized the recent years etiological and pathologic research progress of the disease, investigated its relation with atherosclerosis formation, that dyslipidemia is an important factor in the formation of atherosclerosis. And secondly reviewed recent years TCM treating hyperlipidemia based on the phlegm and blood stasis theory, introduced its treatment, and outlines of phlegm and blood stasis syndrome and hyperlipidemia related research. The clinical studyObjective:To observe and compare the efficacy of pricking blood therapy to orally intaking Xue Zhi Kang in the treating hyperlipidemia in a randomized control study. Then find out its onset time and evaluate its clinical efficacy, in order to promote a different treatment of hyperlipidemia. Methods:According to the classification of diseases and clinic visits,126qualified cases were randomly divided into4groups:TG blood group with34cases, TG drug group with31cases; TC blood group with31cases, TC drug group with30cases. Based on the foundation treatment at the same time, both TG and TC blood groups have pricking blood therapy on any4acupoint each time mentionedbelow:Zusanli,Fenglong,Yinlingquan,Yanglingquan,Weiyang,Ququan,Chize,Quze; where both TG and TC drug groups was treated orally with Xue Zhi Kang Capsule0.6g Bid.Observe different times of the serum triglycerides (TG) and total cholestrol (TC) level changes, analyze the relationship between blood lipid levels and the time difference, and find out its onset time. Results:All patients’gender, age, course of disease, body mass index and other clinical general information showed no significant differences (P<0.05). The total efficiency of TG blood group of lipid regulating effect was97.06%, for TG drug group was83.87%, for TC blood group was96.77%, and for TC drug group was86.67%. Both blood groups showed better effectiveness than the two drug groups (P<0.05). All four groups can decrease the plasma levels of TC or TG level, improve the blood rheology. Tricking blood therapy could instantly low down the TG and TC rate, and this effect lasts at least3weeks. TG blood group had the greatest decline of TG rate in the sixth week of treatment, TC blood group in the ninth week. Pricking blood therapy can also significantly improve TCM syndrome associated symptoms, the total effect is better than oral drug usage (P<0.05).Conclusion:Pricking blood therapy in treating phlegm and blood stasis type hyperlipidemia not only shows immediate effect, but also proved to have a long-term efficacy. Its cumulative effect is better than that of Xue Zhi Kang, therefore it’s worth promoting.
