Modern Chinese Three-word Study New Words

The new word is an inexhaustible motive force to the development of the Chinese, to studyit has an important historical and practical significance. Times from the early19th century tothe mid-20th century lies under the dual background in social change and Western Learning, itsspecial social process and the complex background directly linked to the born of the new termsendowed with the typical characteristics of the times. However, the current academic research,mainly starting from the perspective of history and culture, does not pay enough attention onthe linguistic analysis.The etymological glossary of selected modern Chinese words complied by the ChineseLanguage Society of Hong Kong, published by the Chinese Dictionary Publishing House in2001, is a dating linguistic dictionary. It provides a corpus sample for langue study of theselected modern times.Three-syllable word is an important part of Chinese vocabulary. It does not only increasethe capacity of the vocabulary, but also enhances the flexibility of the formation method. Byexamining the structure type and composition of the three-syllable words in the etymologicaldictionary, we hope to get a glimpse of the general pattern of Chinese vocabulary development.The thesis is comprised of three chapters apart from the exordium and the conclusion.The first chapter discusses the structure types from three aspects of the morphemic structure,grammar structure and prosodic structure, and found that the number of the modificationstructure type is1565, about92.6percent of the total, the other is the verb object type and thesubject-predicate type, accounting for0.2percent respectively. In addition, we indicate somemodels which have emerged in the19th century to the bud.The second chapter discusses the compositions of the new words. Through the formationof the new words, we reveal the important role of the "affixes word formation" and"two-syllable root’s use" in the generation of the modern historical period of Chinese newwords.The third chapter exams the foreign words in etymological dictionary of their survivalsituation, the following are the revelation: the transliteration word which mass our habits arebetter than the other; accurately paraphrase table are better than the ideographic fuzzy; strongerproduce morpheme words has good vitality; the general translation trend of foreign word isfrom transliteration to paraphrase.
