Appositive phrases are widely used in both ancient and modern Chinese materials. In the famousbook San Guo Zhi, appositive phrases which have had the basic structures and the meaning typesof the modern Chinese have been used very common. However, at present, the study on theappositive phrases in San Guo Zhi at home and abroad is limited. Therefore, it deserves doingsome deep research and investigations about it.Upon the overall research of ancient scholars, this thesis takes San Guo Zhi as researchobject, summarizing the types and characteristics of appositive phrases of this book, discussingthe structural components and their restrictive conditions, finally exploring the structure basis.This thesis contains five chapters:The first chapter mainly makes a description and explanation of an appositive phrase andmakes a brief introduction and comments on it, and the existing problems of an appositivephrases are also pointed out.The second chapter makes category demonstration towards the appositive phrases in SanGuo Zhi and divides the category into an appositive phrase composed of two nouns and anappositive phrase composed of a pronoun and a noun. An appositive phrase composed of twonouns divides into the latter noun in combination with the former noun and the former noun incombination with the latter noun.The third chapter mainly discusses the relationship between the structural components andtheir restrictive conditions. The appositive phrase with the latter noun in combination with theformer noun is not restricted by an entire expression, and it belongs to a static expression. Thesemantic relation between the former noun in combination with the latter noun are entity ofmodification and coordinate. Modification demands thet differences between the expressionmeans of the two nouns which possess the same reference forms, and the coordinate demands thetwo nouns which refer to the same object possess the same reference form; The former noun incombination with the latter noun is very close in an appositive phrase with a postpositivesuperior word, which compose an entity. These marks have specific expression functions andbelong to a dynamic expression. The relationship between them are mainly coordinate andmodification and some special forms also have an illustration relation. An appositive phrasecomposed of a noun and a pronoun. It typifies the form of“a pronoun + a noun”. This typephrase is restricted by the deixis function, which is the semantic basis of this type phrase. Therelationship between a pronoun and a noun is the same as the semantic relationship between twonouns. The fourth chapter discusses the appositive phrases which are restricted by syntactic,semantic and pragmatic need analyses and study synthetically from multiple angles.The fifth chapter summarizes characteristics of an appositive phrase of this book. We cansee the inherited relationship by comparing it with Shi Ji and Zuo Zhuan, as well as comparing itwith other literature and Contemporary Chinese and in this way, the significance of theappositive phrases in San Guo Zhi in Chinese grammatical history is evident.
