In the1970s, the concept of "chunk" in psychology was introduced to linguistics, and defined as "language chunks’" which has become a hot point in the field of second language teaching research. It was extensively applied in teaching English as a second language teaching at first. In reference to research results of domestic English teaching, the field of teaching Chinese as a second language at home begins to study on language chunks teaching as well. It focuses on the study of the Chinese ontology mainly from the vocabulary teaching perspective. Based on the theory of chunks teaching methodology, the thesis will discuss its application in intensive reading of intermediate Chinese class. Hoping it could arouse teachers and learners’attention on language chunks.There are5parts in this thesis. The first chapter is to introduce the related concepts of language chunks and chunks teaching methodology, and the question for discussion and the aim of research are also introduced. The second chapter summarizes types of chunks that teachers should pay more attention to on the basis of researches about classification of Chinese chunks in the domestic teaching of Chinese. The third chapter mainly declares the necessity and instructing principles of such teaching methodology from the stages and characteristics of intensive reading class for Intermediate Chinese.The fourth chapter, teaching design is the heart of the thesis. It includes new words, language points, text, exercises and oral communication. What’s more, According to the learners’and teachers’feedback, the advantages of the teaching method would be seen. The fifth chapter is the conclusion, and some suggestions for teaching practice are put forward as a result.
