English Translation Skills Of The Novel

The translation part of my thesis is a novel, it’s a story describing the protagonist Molly and her husband who run a ranch, which Molly took over from her mother Catherine ten years before. A big fire put their ranch into the threat. The story describes the psychological state and the preparation of the protagonist facing the big fire. The author’s language is descriptive, vivid, exact and flexible, while using the right rhetoric methods. This thesis is based on the translation of the representative sentences in this novel, analysing the translation skills of the English novel mainly from the translation style in comparison with the original style, using amplification and inversion to resolve the difference between English and Chinese Languages, and to seek the functional equivalence by free translation. From the above three aspects, the translation part tries to reflects the true style of the original text, and meets the habit of the target language readers.
