Redundancy is one of the esstential features of language.Redundancy refers tothe phenomeno that in language and communicaton, there are certain parts of thelinguistic items which are indispensable while do not convey new information. We canfind Redundancy in textbooks, outlines and other aspects of Teaching Chinese as aForeign Language. Since it is unavoidable, the reseach based on Redundancy andTeaching Chinese as a Foreign Language is very helpful for both teaching andlearning. This paper adopts questionnaire survey, statistical analysis, and experimentalmethods. This paper is divided into five chapters, Chapter One is an introduction, thesecond to the fourth chapter is the main body of the dissertation, Chapter Five is theconcluding part.Chapter Two presents the classifications—lexical, grammatical andpragmatic. Chapter Three is devoted to the investigations both foreign students andteachers; their understanding of Redundancy is very inflexible and not socomprehensive; meanwhile during the teaching process, students’ ability to useChinese properly is ignored by most of the teachers. Chapter Four is targeted onteaching design, and put it into teaching experiment, using SPSS to analyze theexperimental data. Morphemic Analysis Approch, Functional Teaching andScaffolding Instruction are suitable for vocabulary teaching, grammatical teachingand pragmatic teaching separately. The experiment results indicate that these threeteaching methods are of great help for students’ acquisition of Chinese, especiallythose expressions involving semantic redundancy; also they gain students’ recognitionand support.
