Contemporary Chinese American Politics Situation Analysis And Strategy Selection

After the1950s, the rise of Civil Rights Movement not only reduced the discriminations towards ethnic minorities but also greatly improved Chinese American’s social status. Chinese American’s attitude changed from"return to China" to "settle in American" and began to fight for equal treatment and opportunity. After entering the21th century, the influx of a large number of new immigrants improved Chinese’s awareness of political participation. Though Chinese American’s now trying hard to present themselves on the political arena and make their voice being heard, their general political participation situation cannot be counted as successful. This dissertation will adopt structural functionalism of Sociology to analyze the primary factors that influence Chinese American’s political participation and the current problems. Then through the analysis of California, the dissertation try to offer some advices to improve future Chinese American’s political participation.
