Cultural diplomacy, as a new form of diplomacy, has increasingly become animportant part of a country’s overall diplomacy. More and more countries regardcultural diplomacy as an integral means to improve their soft power and achieve theirnational interests. Cultural diplomacy has been an important part of Japan’sdiplomatic strategy. Through cultural diplomacy, the Japanese government hasexpanded its international prestige and standing.Through the two cases of international exchange fund and animation diplomacy,this thesis aims to present the significance and limitations of Japan’s culturaldiplomacy in an effort to analyze what China can learn from Japan’s culturaldiplomacy. China should draw lessons from the successful practice of Japan’s culturaldiplomacy. China should build a mechanism for cultural diplomacy with Chinesecharacteristics based on its national conditions and thus give full play to culturaldiplomacy to as an important force China’s peaceful development.
