| With the economical development and social improvement of our country since1980s, our society has turned such a rapid period of modernization, industrializationand urbanization. At the same time, because social fluxion stimulated, there is acurrent phenomenon that more and more farmers migrate into urban for work, whichresulted in a high attention for the special group--migrant workers. As the families ofmigrant workers, children and parents who stay at home have also become specialgroups--left-behind children and old people. The effect of a large number of migrantworkers on their left-behind families is becoming the research hotspots. Among them,the study on the left-behind children gradually increased. The national government,society, scholars and other groups take a large attention on left-behind Children. Thereis an agreement that careing for left-behind children relates to these children’s growthand development. When parents leave home to work outside, whether they can adaptto the new life? What are the negative effects on left-behind children? Whether as thestrengths perspective, each case has advantages, or strong ability and potential?Whether there are also advantaged traits on left-behind children to help them to adjustto the new environment? How social workers serve scientifically left-behind childrenunder the guidance of the strengths perspective theory? Those are questions the authorwants to find answers.Because the phenomenon of farmers going out for work is very common in theauthor’s hometown–T city F village, a large number of left-behind children appeared.The research’s objects are five left-behind children and their guardian in the village.The author uses subjective sampling method to select the research objects, andemploys in-depth interview, field observation and document searching to collect material. Firstly, the author analyzes the negative effects of the major event--parentsgoing out for work--on left-behind children. Secondly, the author analyzes theadvantaged characteristics of left-behind children when they confront the unfavorablesituation. It is found out that left-behind children have their own advantagedcharacteristics and external characteristics. Their own advantaged characteristicsmanifest in the four aspects: the psychological cognition and the feeling on theirparents working outside, their external behavior and school competence. Theirexternal advantaged characteristics manifest in the two aspects: the family economicbase and parents supporting attitude.After analyzing the left-behind children’s advantaged traits, the author attemptsto explore the service idea, process and method basing on the strengths perspective ofsocial work in order to provide appropriate professional service for left-behindchildren. The purpose is to help them solve their difficulties and problems andexcavate their potential. So left-behind children can get rid of the stereotype of "problem children", and become the healthy group like other children. |
