The conflict that happened in the South Caucasus region between Russia andGeorgia just lasted five days in the year2008,however,it exerted a profound impacton international configuration and international relations. About the causes of thisconflict, somebody say that it root in the contradiction of the great powers’geopolitical strategy; somebody say that it derived from national separation problems;some say it stem from energy and economic problems; furthermore, some point it tothe Russia’s uneasy middle-kingdom mentality.Therefore, in this paper we are to make it clear that the superficial anddeep-seated causes leading to the conflict through comprehensive considerations andsystemic analysis to the collision of the two countries. In this way, we could betterunderstand the interest appeals of Russia in the South Caucasus region, the emotionthat Georgia confronts Russia with, and the reason which the United States and NATOinfiltrate into the South Caucasus region for. Besides, we could further understand theinfluences which the incident brings to the Caucasus region and international order,and even forecast how the bilateral relation of Russia and Georgia to be.
