Geopolitics focuses on the relations among political powers by geography method, serving for the government policy directly. Energy is one of main factors in modern Geopolitics, which is often used to explain the energy safety nowadays. The energy cooperation between China and Myanmar is an important measure to resolve the energy safety problems in China; however, there are domestic and international geopolitical risks in this energy cooperation. The risks should be analyzed by the geopolitical theory to conclude the methods which could promote the energy cooperation, so China’s energy safety and interests could be preserved better.Date analysis, compare analysis and levels analysis are used in the paper. There are five main parts in this paper. The first part is about geopolitics theories. Conclude the concepts and traits of geopolitics. Geopolitics includes three levels:state level, area level and international level. Geography trait, power trait and policy trait are three main traits of geopolitics. The second part is about energy problems in China. This part includes energy factors in geopolitics and concepts of energy safety. This part also analyses energy safety situations in China by geopolitical theories, including geopolitical risks in energy supplies, in energy transports and in energy stores. Third part is on the strategy importance of the energy cooperation between China and Myanmar via the geopolitical view. The energy cooperation helps China to achieve energy multi-supply and energy multi-transport, so that it will protect China’s energy safety better. Considering the long-term geopolitical strategy, the energy cooperation will consolidate the relations of China and Myanmar, so China can go to the Indian Ocean by Myanmar. It can also protect the safety of southwest China. The fourth part is about geopolitical risks on the energy cooperation, one is about domestic geopolitics risks in Myanmar, including political instabilities and changes in diplomacy policy. The other is about the international geopolitical risks around Myanmar, including India, ASEAN, Japan and America. The fifth part focuses on the measures to resolve these geopolitical risks. We must pay attention to the geopolitical risks on the energy cooperation between China and Myanmar, to find ways to resolve these problems in order to protect our energy safety and interest.
