The ancient College is an unique organizational form in ancient China education whichplayed an important role in promoting the development of ancient education.It has a significnteffect of developing China’s ancient education, training personnel for the ruling class andpromoting the prosperity of cultural aspects.According to the record,Jiangxi College was foundedin the Five Dynasties and reached peak in Song Dynasty,where the the Chinese Academy mostconcentrated and which is the most active and most developed region. From the statistics, we canconfirm that the number of Jiangxi College standed in the national forefront.There were a largenumber of influential colleges in JiangXi, such as the Bailudong Academy, Bailuzhou College,Swan Lake College, Xiangshan College. A large number of masters like WangAnshi, Ouyang Xiu,Zhu Xi, LuJiuyuan stayed here to write scholarly works and impart knowledge, leaving us a richcultural heritage.The Ganzhou record on education,was first seen in the first year of Song Zhipingperiod(1064AD), in "Qianzhou Xueji”authored by Wang Anshi. Wang Anshi said:"During Qingliperiod, counties and districts were ordered to set up colleges. Qianzhou also did so." Accordingto"The History of Song Dynasty", in Renzong Qingli four years (AD1044), March, the emperorordered the whole country to establish county and district college and changed the legal system ofimperial examination in order to select excellent talents.From the Song Dynasty to Qing Dynasty,Ganzhou County and district college continued.What is worth mentioning is the Ganzhou Academy.In the Northern Song Dynasty,ZhouDunyu had served in NanAn military and then Qianzhou.As vice prefect for militia ofQianzhou,he lectured in the Yu Xu temple known as Lian College. Moreover, about the QingXicollege where the Qianzhou perfect Zhao Bian and ZhouDunyu jointly teached,there is no recordof its address. Zhou received Cheng Hao, and Cheng Yi two famous disciples, who jointly createdthe reputation of the Ganzhou Academy. After Cheng Hao, Cheng Yi become well-known scholars,they later received the student YangShi, leaving the story of a pupil showing reverence for hismaster and the story of passing knowledge from generation to generation.At the end of NorthernSong, Yang represented as SiCao in Qianzhou.On behalf of GuoZhizhang of Qian Shou,he wrote arecommendation to recommend to the court the Qianzhou scholar YangXiaoben.In this article,hewrote"the principle of serving emperor is to serve people.while the top ominous harbinger is tostifle real talents”which was famous among people in QianZhou. In Guihai year of Qianlongperiod in Qing dynasty (AD1743), WuXianggao erected a monument in evening talk Pavilion of aLianXi College in Ganzhou, which has been preserved to this day. In Ming Dynasty Zhengde(AD1517-1520), Wang Shouren set up acadamies and community colleges in Ganzhou. Andmany domestic famous scholars admiring his knowledge came to listen to Wang Shou-ren’slecturers,which created an unprecedented scene.During this time when the conscience doctrinewas almost finished, Wang Shouren’s Disciples sorted out “The Imparting Record” and publishedit in Ganzhou. There were five colleges in GanZhou. In the east standed YiEr College.In the southEast was ZhengMeng College.FuAn College and ZhenNing college lay in the west and LongchiCollege was in the North.When Wang Yangming lived in GanZhou, he held the world in his heart.Both his polite letters and martial arts had been to the mountaintop. By fully denouncing thelearning of ZhuXi, Wang Yangming established his own subjective idealism system:YangmingSchool. And the theory of Lu,which is regarded as the cultural essence of Jiangxi school, is thecore and foundation of the Yangming School. In addition,in the history of the Ganzhou,there were other colleges such as Yangming Academy, Ann Lake College, the LianJiang College,DaoYuanAcademy, MeiJiang College and so on.In Song dynasty, Jiangxi had one of the highest concentrations of national ancientacademies.Its impact is unique in the country, and especially the teaching and regulation of JiangxiCollege were crowned as College "model".Ganzhou College played a very important role in thedevelopment of Jiangxi Academy.There are several reasons leading to the development ofGanzhou College. The first one is political reason. an obvious sign of the development of culturaland educational undertakings in Gannan is the foundation of the colleges. DaoYuan College,LianXi College were the earliest colleges in Gannan region.Their foundation not only benefitedfrom the government’s advocation, but also resulted from the support of politicians or writers likeZhouDunyu,WangYangming,YangXiaoben etc,thus giving rise to GanZhou college in thiscircumstance. The second one is economic reason.Due to the transfer of China’s economic centerto the south, the tremendous changes of the society in Tang and Song dynasty as well as Ganzhouin Song dynasty showing a prosperous outlook with the people having enough food and clothing,Ganzhou became one of the36prestigious cities in the country.In addition,Ganzhou is the sourceof Gan river, which is formed the confluence of Zhang River and Gong River.Therefore, thewaterway transport was extremely well developed and GanZhou was one of important towns inSong dynasty.At that time, papermaking and printing had a mature development,which alsoprovided favorable conditions for the College educational activities. Furthermore,A favorableeconomic environment promoted the development of the Colleges. The third one is the culturalreason. From the Five Dynasties to the Northern Song Dynasty, With confucianism revived at thattime, the ruling class made full use of it to create a favorable external environment for thedevelopment of the College. And the development of Confucianism also bring rich resources tothe college education. In particular, with the efforts made by HanYu, Confucianism reached theclimax in the Northern Song Dynasty.In the Southern Song Dynasty, with the advocacy of NeoConfucianism by the court, Colleges centering on confucianism entered a period of prosperity.Inparticular, Neo-Confucianists like ZhouDunyu, ZhuXi, Yang Xiaoben practiced an active part inthe promotion of colleges in Ganzhou and took the colleges as a places for disseminatingNeo-Confucianism,which also promoted the prosperity of the colleges in Ganzhou. Of course,nothing occurs in isolation.The development of Ganzhou was inseparable from its socialenvironment. Ruler promoting education, the changes of social atmosphere, good human andculture environment and educational activities jointly promoted its development. Colleges, officialschools and the imperial examination didn’t go against each other, but converged into one and wasmutually interdependent.Moreover,Social and economic prosperity expanded space for thedevelopment of colleges and provided the living conditions of the College.Under the text-based examination system, teaching achievements is not easy to translate intoproductivity directly. But the feudal Confucian education adopted by the Song Dynasty helpd tocreate a stable social order, which is necessary to economic development. What’s more, withZhouDunyu, Wang Yangming, Zhu Xi taking in charge, Ganzhou was also easier to enter thevision of politicians. So, even in the era when Confucian was regarded as the main teachingcontent, College education not only promoted the development of education in Ganzhou, but alsoimpelled the local socio-economic development. Of course, to a certain extent, especially therepression caused by the imperial examination system also brought a certain negative impact onGanzhou education. During almost thousand of years of Ganzhou colleges, through the teaching anddissemination of academic masters, the Chinese traditional culture was able to be carried forwardand developed and ancient education thought was passed from generation to generation. In thelong process of development of the college, it formed its own unique and vital spiritual content,which we called "college spirit". College traditions, such as academic freedom, lecture systerm, norestrict for students’origin, individualized instruction, were founded, fully reflecting the College’sspirit of independence, inclusion, academic freedom, and humane care. It is under the influence ofthis spirit that ancient colleges, especially alienate education got a lot of vigor and vitality.Itplayed an significant role in the inheritance and development of traditional Chinese culture, andleft a rich cultural wealth for future generations.College education laid a foundation for the development of higher education in China.Manytraditions of ancient colleges provided reference for the development of the contemporaryuniversity. And the tradition of many college education so far are still very enlightening. Similarly,the college spirit is still a certain reference.for that of the university.University Spirit serves as a guide for college students to practise ethics and pursue a goalwith determination.It is also an important guarantee for college students to cast themselves into auseful implement.This spirit is the power source for students to start a career.In general, the mainfunctions of the university spirit embody the following areas: orientation function, incentivefunction, edifying function, internalized function.University spirit is the eccence which makes the university extensive and profound. In thelong-term process of running colleges,with the struggle and perseverence of the generations ofuniversity people, the university gradually forms tradtions stamped with its own features. we callit the spirit of university. The University is a place where we strive for the truth and learn to be areal man. At present,as technology develops rapidly, against the background of technology andeducation strategy, the era has entrusted new task and mission to the university, and also placegreater demands on contemporary university. Opportunities and challenges come hand in hand forcurrent universities. About questions like how colleges and universities disseminate the traditionalChinese culture and carry forward the spirit of the Chinese universities,we have to constantlyexplore.For one thing, we need to learn from the successful experience of Western developedcountries. For another thing,we need procced from ancient traditions and draw experience fromthe spirit of the ancient academies to rebuild the spirit of University in the new era,thus injectingvitality for the long-term development of the University. In general, if Chinese universities wantto cultivate university spirit characterized by its own national features, they should,on the basis ofthe absorption of Western civilization, inherit and carry forward traditional Chinese AcademySpirit: free spirit, independent spirit, the spirit of tolerance, human spirit. Therefore, our study onthe Ganzhou Academy has a very important theoretical and practical significance.
