Reflection Upon The High School Entrance PE Examination In China

The implementation of high school entrance PE examination can effectively attractattention to the physical education from students, parents, school and society, greatlystimulate the students’ initiative to participate the physical exercise and strongly ensurethe sound development of students’ physique; at the same time, it strengthens the statusof school sports work in educational reform, and promotes the full implementation ofthe quality-oriented education in China. All these confirm that the feasibility of highschool entrance PE examination is beyond doubt. Through a review of the China’s highschool entrance PE examination system and its test policies issued by national and localgovernments in each period, and the status quo of full implementation of2011Nationalhigh school entrance PE Examination, this paper provides a comprehensive andsystematic analysis of the problems faced by high school entrance PE examinationpolicy, and actively explores the orientation of PE exam policy’s reform anddevelopment, in order to provide more references for the effective sports work of highschool entrance PE examination all over the country..The findings of the research are as follows:(1) High school entrance PEexamination has gone through the local pilot phase, the nationwide pilot phase, thenationwide implementation stage and comprehensive promotion phase.(2) Since1992,five regulations about high school entrance PE examination have been released in Chinaand the specific requirements for the event settings, score proportion, and testmanagement have served an important guidance during the exams.(3) Since2007, allthe local governments have made detailed plans for the implementation of high schoolentrance PE exam, and made some requirements for the test mode and test items.(4)The2011implementation situation of high school entrance PE exam in all the provinces,municipalities and autonomous regions are as follows. First is test mode. It consists ofunified testing and a comprehensive multi-level assessment. Comprehensivemulti-level assessment is implemented in all the cities and districts of15provinces,accounting for48percent of the country, and unified testing is implemented in those of16provinces, accounting for52percent of all. Second is exam item. It consists of compulsory item and elective item. Compulsory item mainly includes1000meter race(male),800meter race (female), standing long jump, medicine ball, sit-ups, chin-up(male), rope skipping, crook before the seat body. Elective item mainly includesstanding long jump, medicine ball, sit-ups, chin-up (male), rope skipping, crook beforethe seat body, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Third is the testing score. The scoreof30points and below is implemented in15provinces, accounting for48percent of allthe country; the score ranging from31to50is implemented in11provinces andautonomous regions, accounting for35%; the score over50in5provinces andautonomous regions, accounting for17%. Forth,31provinces, municipalities andautonomous regions have established the identification and assessment standards for thestudents who are exempt from the exam or take the supplementary exam.(5) There stillexist a series of problems in the high school entrance PE exam, such as largefluctuations in the implementation of policies in different periods, the inconsistent testscores and the fuzzification of test assessment.(6) The corresponding solutions andsuggestions are put forward. First, to improve the test policy of high school entrance PEexam and give full play to the leading role of our country; Second, to increase the testscores and enhance the test influence. Third, to properly resolve the contradictionbetween the scores and the caste system in high school entrance PE exam. Last, tostandardize the exam organization work, and to improve its public credibility.
