School violence is some behaviour intentionally may cause physical and mentaldamage or threatening which happened in school, which includes physical violence andpsychological violence. Coping style is the specific way of individual psychology andbehavior. This study made a systematic research of the characteristics which is about themiddle school students’ physical violence and psychological violence, and it also madea research of the relationship between school violence and coping style. It offeredpeople’s understanding and prevention of school violence, also rich the psychologicaltheory of the students’ psychology and behavior development in the middle school.In this study, based on the literature review, first, we checked the reliability andvalidity of teen-agers’ physical violence questionnaire, teen-agers’ psychologicalviolence questionnaire, and middle shool students’ coping style questionnaire, then, wemade a survey of515middle school students, in order to study their characteristics ofphysical violence and psychological violence, the relationship between physicalviolence, psychological violence and coping style, finally, we studied the possible directrelationship between physical violence, psychological violence and coping style by theexperimental method. To reach the following conclusions:1) Teen-agers’ physical violence questionnaire, teen-agers’ psychological violencequestionnaire, and middle school students’ coping style questionnaire have goodreliability and validity;2) The degree of involving in physical violence and psychological violence amongmiddle school students is low and middle;3) In terms of the grade, there are more students involved in the body violence,bullying, tool violence, physical violence, and verbal violence in the third year of juniorhigh school; there are more students involved in the body violence, bullying, toolviolence, sexual violence, physical violence, pressure violence, verbal violence, andpsychological violence in the second year of junior high school; there are more studentsinvolved in the body violence, verbal violence, and psychological violence in the thirdyear of the high school;4) In terms of the gender, the male students are more involved in the body violence,bullying, tool violence, physical violence, relational aggression, network violence,pressure violence, verbal violence, and psychological violence than famal students; 5) In terms of the only child or not, the only child students are more involved in thebody violence, bullying, sexual violence, and physical violence;6) In terms of the school achievement, the poor school achievement students aremore involved in the body violence, bullying, physical violence, verbal violence, andpsychological violence; the excellent school achievement students are less involved inthe sexual violence;7) In terms of the coping style, the students involved in physical/psychologicalviolence in a high degree tend to use some coping styles which point to emotion;8) There is a significant negative correlation between physical violence/psychological violence and coping styles which point to emotion, positive correlationbetween physical/psychological violence and coping styles which point to problem.Coping styles have a prediction on the physical violence and psychological violence.9) There maybe direct relationship between problem solving and physical violencetotal score, body violence, sexual violence, psychological violence total score, verbalviolence. The one who has a high score in problem solving has a low score in those;There maybe direct relationship between emotion abreaction and sexual violence,psychological violence total score, relational aggression, verbal violence. The one whohas a high score in emotion abreaction has a high score in those.As an exploratory study, this research preliminary analysed the present situation ofthe school violence in the middle school, then discussed the relationship of schoolviolence and coping style. It has an important guiding value for the further research andthe comprehensive understanding on school violence in the middle school, and canpromote the students’ healthy development in the middle school.
