In recent years, the number of college graduates has expanded, the employment problem highlights, many college students in the graduation chose to go to graduate school. To this, the scholars explain the motivation from the human capital investment theory or signal theory, think it is caused by the college students’ employment difficult, so suggest that college major setting should be adjusted to fit market demand. All the existing research regard the graduate education as a kind of investment, this assumption is lack of evidence. This paper describes the present situation of college students choosing to go to graduate school, from perspective of motivation, explains the formation mechanism of "postgraduate education boom" in current economic profits of the lower case:The reason of choosing postgraduate education is to get more economic benefits, so it is an investment behavior simply ascending human capital value; Or is to consider more from angle of non-economic earnings, so it how many has some consumer properties. Then three basic hypotheses are put forward:(1) Variables such as college students’academic performance, census register type, self-efficacy, university type, risk attitude affect the choice of postgraduate education significantly;(2) education has a variety of demand attributes, the choice of postgraduate education can be based on education investment demand, also can be based on education consumption demand;(3) College students of different census register types and different gender types have different influence factors and the features of their own in choosing postgraduate education.In order to validate the basic hypothesis, issue1000self-made questionnaires in five universities in hangzhou, choose Logistic model to analysis, draw some conclusion. Following conclusions are mainly draw from overall samples:(1) Variables such as university types which reflect college learning environment, high school types which select the learning ability and college students’ learning self-efficacy formed for a long time are the key factors to make a choice of postgraduate education;(2) Variables such as census register type and family situation affect the choice of postgraduate education significantly, this could be explained through the second basic hypothesis;(3) the degree of risk preference no significant impact on choice making of postgraduate education. The further comparative studies of different census register types and different gender types of college students review mechanism differences of postgraduate education choice, main results are as follows:(1) The factorof census register typehas different influence on college students of different academic rankings category when making decision whether going topostgraduate school:for students who achieve good study performance, the identity tags of census register shows no significant effect, but for students who achieve general or poor study performance, the influence of all other factors is not significant, the only significantvariableis census register type;(2) Risk attitude variable hassignificant effects for students who achieve good study performance, but it has no significant effectsfor students who achieve general or poor study performance;(3) Male college students consider more of investment demand when choosing postgraduate education, university type and high school type have significant influence, and female college students considermore of consumption demand, only census register affects significantly.
