Googleearth Application Case Study Of Secondary School Geography Teaching

The use of modern information technology to teaching in secondary school geography is required. A supportive branch of the modern information technology is geographic information system(GIS) which can provide a wealth of auxiliary teaching content. Google Earth software is an important application in GIS, which has the direct-viewing image, huge information content. Using Google Earth software in geography teaching can avoid problems, such as insufficient in professional GIS hardware, data resources and teacher training. The Google Earth software to play a supporting role in secondary school geography teaching.The paper summarized and analyzed the application status of Google Earth in geography teaching at home and abroad and described the theoretical basis for use of the Google Earth applied in secondary school geography teaching. Feasibility Analysis are discussed from four aspects:the secondary school curriculum standards requirements, the defects of traditional teaching methods, the difficulties of professional GIS software application and the unique advantage of Google Earth software, what’s more, layers and functions of Google Earth that can be applied to teaching are described. To highlight the advantages of teaching assisted by Google Earth software, the paper dissected specific examples in Google Earth used in geography lessons from both natural and human geography combined with the teaching materials and knowledge. The paper concluded the role and advantages of Google Earth software applied in secondary school geography teaching in the end, and summed up some problems from two perspectives of both teachers and students when using Google Earth software in order to better use it.
