College students’self-education in Ideological and Political Education is an important aspect and link, without college students’self-education, the Ideological and Political Education of college students is not complete. Compared with the Ideological and Political Education, college students’self-education highlights the stronger ’subjectivity’, and its role in the Ideological and Political Education can not be ignored. However, people did not pay enough attention to the college students’self-education for a long time, and its role also did not get be developed adequately. These influenced the effects of ideological and political education of college students. So, it is necessary to study the value of college students’self-education deeply. To study the value of college students’self-education, whether it is rich for the theory of self-education or Ideological and Political Education, or to improve the students’abilities to educate themselves, to promote their healthy growth, has a very important practical significance.Besides the introduction, this paper is divided into three parts:The first part is to expound the connotation and features of college students’ self-education. On the foundation of interpreting the connotation of college students’ self-education, discussing its prominent features:the educational purpose is self-oriented, the educational content is self-chosen, the educational motivation is endogenous, and the educational process is continual.The second part is to discuss the content of the value of college students’ self-education. This is the focus of this paper. It thinks that the college students’ self-education has many important values, the first is to develop the comprehensive qualities of college students, including the value of culturing moral qualities, the value of guiding values, the value of developing personalities, the value of improving abilities, and so on. The second is to accelerate the college students’individual socialization, including the value of keeping survival, the value of regulating behavior, the value of role socialization, the value of fostering ideal, and so on. The third is to leading college students to solve the practical problems, including the value of urging learning, the value of guiding lives, the value of coordinating interpersonal relationships, the value of adjusting psychological, and so on. The forth is to enhance the effectiveness of University Ideological and Political Education, including the value of renewing educational ideas, the value of attaining educational goals, the value of innovating educational mode, the value of optimizing the educational environment, and so on.The third part is to propose the strategies to achieve the college students’ self-education. This section is the end-result of whole text. According to the factors that influencing the achievement of the value of college students’self-education, there are three effective strategies:playing the role of college students’subjectivity to enhance their self-education abilities; innovating the Ideological and Political education to provide students with effective guidance; improving educational conditions to create a good educational environment.
