To cultivate student’s learning ability on the subject of Physics is the purpose of teaching for all the teachers of the subject in the three years of senior high school period. Instead of the dogmatic and theoretic preaching, this paper takes a unique perspective-the teaching practice, and argues for dividing the process of students’growth of learning ability into three phases:the first year, the second and the third, with different focuses in each phase of teaching. In light of the mental and physical traits as well as the knowledge level of the first-year students, the first phase teaching should focus on the integration between the knowledge levels of the junior high school and senior high school. The teacher should take a step-by-step approach and help students develop good habits of learning. In the second year, especially the time when the new lessons are about to finish, the teacher should take into account the problems students encounter, consolidate students’learning method, namely,"Five-loop learning method", and highlight the development of competence in five aspects:comprehension, inference, analysis and problem-solving, dealing with physics questions using mathematic tools and experiment, so that a sound foundation can by laid for the exam preparation period in the third year. In the third phase, the teacher should help students optimize the learning method and build up their ability to summarize what they have learned before and think open-mindedly. In this paper, the author has done the following research:1. Surveying students’competence and knowledge in Physics in different grades and identifying the problems;2. Finding the solution to the problems in light of the reality;3. Based on the teaching cases, raising suggestions on Physics teaching methods, with the focus on students’Physics learning ability.
