Modern Chinese education must realize the unity of instrumental and humanity in order to adapt to the demand of talented person. The traditional initiation education textbooks are the form of unity of instrumental and humanity. The traditional initiation education textbooks not only play a role in improving students’Chinese knowledge role, but also concentrate the Chinese nation’s profound traditional culture, historical connotation and the national spirit. And visible, the research and utilization about traditional initiation education textbooks have the enlightenment function in deepening and improving Chinese teaching. This paper analyzes "the Whip and Spur", the famous traditional initiation education textbooks, under the vision of modern Chinese education, thus further analyzes the important inspiration and value of "the Whip and Spur" for the Chinese education.This paper is divided into three parts:At first, there is an overview of the traditional initiation education textbooks. This part is based on the clues of development of history, introduces textbooks of four stages, namely the Pre-Qin Dynasty, the Wei and Jin Dynasties, Sui Tang Dynasties, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. It explores the history of the developmental origin of "the Whip and Spur" in the macroscopic level, and analyzes the traditional initiation education textbooks’characteristics, namely three aspects including the instrumental, ideological and daily.Based on this, the second chapter focuses on the major features and education function of "the Whip and Spur". If the first part just lists the historical materials, then the second part analyzes "the Whip and Spur" comprehensively and deeply in the history of the traditional initiation education textbooks. Firstly, this part summarizes the main characteristics of "the Whip and Spur" through the way of close reading and the statistics, namely abundant and comprehensive knowledge, the rhyme body form, and the thought which is stated through stories. Secondly, the paper introduces "the Whip and Spur", which has triple functions including the moral enlightenment, Chinese experience and knowledge development under the vision of modern Chinese education.At last, the paper basically analyzes the important inspiration of "the Whip and Spur" for the current Chinese education. First, the textbook reforming value discusses the reference of "the Whip and Spur" from two aspects of the choice of essays and extracurricular reading teaching materials. Second, teaching value realizes the real change of Chinese education through the teaching experience examining, teaching thinking conversion and the innovation of teaching practice of "the Whip and Spur". Third, the exam value is mainly divided into accumulating basic knowledge, strengthening the ability of using language, improving writing ability, paying attention to calligraphy training in this paper. In general, this chapter introduces the reference and inspiration for current Chinese education through discussing the content, structure and thinking of "the Whip and Spur".
